Clinical Review Policy

How our kidney health content is written, checked and kept up to date.

Our standards

  • We educate and help people navigate care. We never diagnose, and no page tells a reader what their own result means.
  • We do not recommend specific medicines or doses. Where treatment is mentioned, we describe in general terms what a clinician may consider or discuss.
  • We do not present creatinine as a diagnosis on its own. We explain that kidney function is estimated as eGFR, and that chronic kidney disease is assessed using eGFR and urine ACR together, over more than 3 months.
  • We do not publish fixed "normal ranges" for tests where ranges vary by lab. We ask readers to use the range printed on their report.
  • No fear-based headlines, no testimonials, no promised outcomes and no "best doctor" claims. Promotional wording follows the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) requirement to be objective, true and dignified.
  • Any number we quote comes from a named source listed on the page.

Sources we use

We rely mainly on published clinical guidelines and trusted health bodies, including the KDIGO 2024 guideline on chronic kidney disease, the KDIGO 2022 guideline on diabetes in CKD, NICE guideline NG203, the US National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), the National Kidney Foundation, and the Kenya Ministry of Health where relevant. Each clinical page lists its sources.

How a page is reviewed

  1. Writing. The editorial team drafts the page from the sources above, in plain language.
  2. Clinical review. A registered clinician checks the page for accuracy, safety and balance, including urgent-care advice. They can request changes or reject the page.
  3. Sign-off. Once approved, the page shows the reviewer's name and qualification and the review date.
  4. Scheduled review. Every clinical page is reviewed again at least every 12 months, and sooner when a major guideline changes.

Clinical pages are reviewed by a qualified clinician registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).

Independence

Providers listed in our directory cannot pay to influence, approve or edit educational content. Reviewers declare any conflicts of interest, and a reviewer does not review content that mentions a service they work for.

Corrections

If you think something on this site is wrong or out of date, email hello@mombasakidneycare.co.ke with the page address. We will check it with our clinical reviewer and correct confirmed errors promptly, updating the review date.
